Irregular Verbs

Remember this

There are two types of verbs in English. The verbs that change are called "irregular verbs" and those to which we add "ed" to the simple past and past participle forms are called "regular verbs". For example, the verb "go" is irregular because its simple past and past participle forms are "went" and "gone" successively, whereas "watch" is regular because we just add "ed" to the base form and it becomes "watched" in both simple past and past participle.

Simply put, the verbs that we find in the list are called irregular verbs, and those we don't find are referred to as regular verbs.

These are some examples of irregular verbs and regular verbs.

1. seesawseen1. startstart edstart ed
2. dodiddone2. collectcollect edcollect ed
3. breakbrokebroken3. visitvisit edvisit ed

N.B. We change the "y" into "i" if the verb ends in a consonant + "y", for example, studystudied and it doesn't change when the verb ends in a vowel + "y", for example playplayed.
